Portable power from water!

by David Allen on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

This portable generator from Trulite is brilliant it produces power from water (Or so they say – Evidence please!) but if this did work and was reliable it is going to be a great piece of machinery, and will be able to help out in emergencies and even on camping trips etc.

The power is delivered through hydro cells, which are hydrogen fuel cells, which contain dry sodium borohydride, these cells have a long life, if you are comparing them to batteries.

trulite

Features:

Because the Trulite system does not have any emissions that are harmful, the system can be used indoors.
The Trulite system weighs less than 20 pounds and can easily be carried in one hand. The unit is very portable and unobtrusive.
The Trulite system can be used to recharge batteries or to directly power devices, depending on the peak loads and the application.
Hydro Cell fuel canisters have a long shelf life when not in use, whereas batteries can deteriorate or lose their charge over time (especially in hot or cold environments). Liquid fuels for internal combustion generators, such as gasoline, can also deteriorate over time.
Hydro Cell canisters are compact and require minimal space for storage.
The hydrogen stored in Hydro Cell fuel canisters is embedded in the sodium and borax and only released when water is introduced.
