Clock in a piece of wood

Sounds strange, well maybe that’s because it is, how on earth does this thing work?

Well the light comes from the inside, but looks like it is being projected onto the wood from across the room, but when the power is turned off it looks just like an ordinary piece of wood, these things are great!
