Garmin Nuviphone Reviewed!

Yes, the new Garmin Nuviphone does look a lot like the iPhone but better in some ways especially the GPS part.

Will it live up to its name?

Probably, Garmin’s not known for making cellphones so we will have to see how durable and stable this phone really is over time.  Then again, Apple wasn’t known for making any cellphone either.

Some of the Nuvifone’s features include Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, as well as tri-band 3.5G HSDPA data access. That said, if we do see this phone in the states, it will likely show up either on AT&T or as an unlocked phone that people can purchase and stic a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card into. It also has Wi-Fi connectivity, and while the stats don’t go into specifics, I imagine it’s 802.11b/g. Pricing is not yet available, but the phone will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.

Here’s another cool instructable on how to make an NES remote!

This idea started when I saw someone on the web putting an iPod Shuffle into a NES controller. I thought it was was a great idea. Then I got the idea to do the same thing, but instead of an iPod Shuffle, I would use the Apple Remote. So, here it is !

AT&T Confirms High Speed Rollout in Time for iPhone 2.0 - Will it be fast enough?

Posted in Consumer, Educational, Gadgets, Industrial, WiMax, Wireless, cell phones, iPhone, technology by max on the May 22nd, 2008 at 11:28 pm

AT&T confirms their higher speed 3G wireless speeds when the new iPhone rolls out. At 1.4 Mbps Down and 800 Kbps Up, will this be fast enough?

The answer is already clear. Their current 3G speeds are so slow that you can’t even really watch Youtube videos on it. With the new “hyped’ 3G speeds, AT&T is only fooling consumers, who in turn will also fool themselves to believing this is something new.

Do you want to be lied to twice?  I don’t think so, just remember when Apple had those TV ads when the iPhone streamed live Youtube…

For comparison, we could compare to the WiMax Wave 2 technology, which can stream HD quality videos.

With the new WiMax technology boasting 37.44Mbps download speeds and 10.08Mbps upload speeds, AT&T is still stuck back about 2-3 years.

They basically bought out Cingular couple years ago just so they can get into the mobile telecommunications market. AT&T has not proven themselves and all this 3G will be another $400 out of your pocket while the CEOs go play golf with your money.

Better solution?

iPhone should be available on Sprint as Sprint will be rolling out WiMax later this year. Although that’s still not the fastest WiMax, it will be much faster than AT&T’s “claimed” 3G speeds.

AT&T has announced that it will have completed a country wide rollout of its HSUPA 3G service by the end of June. We’re guessing that a little voice from Cupertino might have been hurrying AT&T along. You know, just like AT&T boosting EDGE speeds last year on the iPhone’s launch date. Just saying.

Integrated Desk with embedded PC and Fold-Away Monitor

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, Design, Gadgets by max on the May 17th, 2008 at 3:10 am

Integrated Desk with embedded PC and Fold-Away Monitor

Wow, check this integrated desk with embedded PC and fold-away monitor!  Great concept, maybe Apple might go for something like this.

It’d be even better if you could do “dual-monitor” setup.

Besides being absolutely beautiful, this Sync Desktop concept from designer Gareth Battensby features a fold-away widescreen monitor and keyboard, a built in USB hub, scanner, mouse, webcam, easy-to-access DVD unit, and plenty of storage space. And because it is all seamlessly integrated into the design, the Sync can be converted into a standard desk for other projects whenever necessary. The only problem is that I doubt that it could ever become a commercial product unless there was a way to upgrade the hardware.

Here’s Dash, a company that makes in-car navigation opening their API for developers to develop apps for their navigation system.

Sounds like a great idea, it will work a lot better if they offered some prizes like Google (GOOG) has been doing with their Android and Apple (APPLE) with their iPhone.

Maybe I will apply for an API so I can integrate SiteHoppin into their Dash navigation systems and people will be site hopping on the go.

Tomorrow morning at O’Reilly’s Where 2.0 conference we’ll be announcing another first for the GPS category. We’re opening up our service to enable other companies and developers to provide timely and relevant Internet content to the car. Our goal is to get drivers the answers they need every day. We call these new partner-created applications, DashApps.

Microsoft Vista - one of the biggest blunders in technology!

Posted in Advertising, Apple, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Entertainment by max on the March 24th, 2008 at 9:16 am

Microsoft Vista - one of the biggest blunders in technology!

I was site hoppin’ over at Gizmodo today and for some reason their posts were down but I had the pleasure of watching their flash ad.

Hope you enjoy and why are all computer dealers/manufacturers still shipping their PCs and laptops with Vista installed? At least let the people have an option to have XP pre-installed. (Yes, that means you Dell, HP, Compaq, Sony, etc…etc… why are you guys so dumb and promote a “dumb” Vista? Yes, you guys probably make way too much money to actually care about people. Stop hiding in your stupid looking grey suits and respond to me you dumbasses!)

Get your Used Macs and Mac parts at dvwarehouse.com!

Get your Used Macs and Mac parts at dvwarehouse.com!Get your Used Macs and Mac parts at dvwarehouse.com!2

This is a paid review through ReviewMe.

Check out some of these great deals online for your used Macs and Mac parts needs over at dvwarehouse.com.

Pre-owned stuff they are selling right now:

I could get bunch of these pre-owned iMac 500Mhz 128mb 20GB with CD player for like $129! (and set them up to do some automation work for me, don’t know what to use it for but…)

If you are broke and you are student, you have to check out some of the deals here, why pay for new stuff when you get them almost less than half off?

Plus, this online store has PageRank of 5 on its main page, most likely a good sign. (Did you know I look at PageRank before I buy anything online? You can download Google Toolbar here and check it out yourself.)

I admit I own 4 refurbished PCs myself, and probably will get bunch of these Macs in the future too. They seem much cheaper than refurbished PCs for what I am trying to accomplish. If you have a kid who is just starting out on computers, refurbished might be the best way to go and let them get used to typing. Yes, you can then save money on “learn to type” software for all those older computers. Better yet, I bet you can download those old softwares free.

Check out DVWarehouse.com here.

iPhone 2.0 coming soon… with 100 million dollars for app developers!

Posted in Business, Business Ideas, Cool, Entrepreneurs, iPhone, iPod Touch by max on the March 8th, 2008 at 11:53 pm

iPhone 2.0 coming soon… with 100 million dollars for app developers!

Lol… check out iPhone’s counter-attack on Google 10 million dollar prizes to Android developers.

Who will win? Definitely, iPhone is way ahead as far as technology and Google’s simply chippin’ away to their new venture.

The only thing I hope for? That, Apple gets their bandwidths straight and start getting on CDMA networks or even better, WiMax.

With all the telecommunications companies profiting off old outdated technologies in the US, WiMax might still be years away but at least somebody is trying.

Check out the Steve Jobs press interview over at Gizmodo for more info.
