DIY Hack - How to make your plugins work in Firefox 3 Beta!

DIY Hack - How to make your plugins work in Firefox 3 Beta!

Well, if you are like me, an early adaptor, you probably are already using Firefox 3 Beta. As many of you know, a lot of your Firefox plugins do not work or is not compatible with the new FF3.

Here’s a simple way to make it work: (Thanks to Lifehacker)

1. Type About:config in your FF3 Browser address bar.
2. Right click->New->Boolean then, type in extensions.checkCompatibility, select false.
3. Right click->New->Boolean then, type in extensions.checkUpdateSecurity, select false.

This pretty much disables your compatibility and update security check for all the plugins. Now, some of your plugins may not work and you might not be able to re-start your browser.

Well, if this happens, it’s pretty easy to fix. (for PCs)

Go to G:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bwso99u0.default\extensions where Administrator is your Windows username and bwso99u0.default can be different. (It will be something along the lines of xxxxxxx.default)

Note: Make sure to set your File browser to view “hidden files and folders” as the Application Data folder is actually hidden as default. Make sure that the folder you are in matches above, otherwise you are probably in the wrong folder

Once you are in your extensions directory, you can move any of the folders to a temporary folder until your Firefox 3 works. Or simply move all of them to a temporary folder then move them back to the extensions directory one by one until you get a handful of plugins that work.

I’ve also found out that Google Toolbar doesn’t work with Firefox 3 so, above steps will most likely be necessary in your hacking without completely disabling your precious foxy animal.

Google’s Android Could Learn From Yahoo’s Go!

Posted in Cool, Google, Web, Yahoo by max on the January 15th, 2008 at 3:35 pm

Remember my post on the Google Phone Operating System Android?

Check out this review of comparison between Google’s Android and Yahoo’s Go. Although they are completely different animals, (This guy is comparing an operating system to a web site.) it’s interesting how one giant is going for hardware while the other is shooting for software.

Go! is Yahoo’s attempt to deliver their content to multiple devices regardless of manufacturer or carrier, and you know what? It does a pretty good job of it. Go! 3.0 in it’s beta form fixed some issues with the previous version, but the biggest addition is the ability to add your own widgets from other sites, giving you more options to customize it to your liking. The more I used Go! the more I began to realize what I wanted out of Google’s Android. If you’ve never seen or used Yahoo Go!, it’s a program that you must install, then run on your handset. It essentially does away with the need to log onto Yahoo.com to access Yahoo’s content. Email, news headlines, stock updates, sports, and even a search engine are all included. I began to think “what if there was some way to make Yahoo Go! the backbone of my handset?” I would still need access to my phone book and contacts, but that shouldn’t be too difficult to implement.

I’ve summed up all the tech blog on Entrecard on SiteHoppin so you can use the following link to “site hop” tech blogs:

We will be doing a special, “Site Hoppin’” through all Entrecard tech blogs and (hopefully) get an interesting post per each one.
