Slippery Goose, good thing we are in the west coast…

Whoa, check this video out. It’s crazy what ice and cold can do…
On the fateful snowy day in our video, things worked a little differently. When these people pressed the brakes, the heat generated by the tire-on-ice friction created a thin film of water over the frozen surface. The coefficient of friction for tires on ice with a thin film of water between them is pretty much zip, resulting in—you guessed it—auto Ice Capades. It took almost no braking force for the cars to skid and, once skidding, they continued in a uniform motion, on a decline, until they found something that could apply enough force to stop them. The most convenient thing, as it all too often is, was another car.

Automated Garage

Okay, this automated garage is being installed in New York somewhere. I think it’s great technology
that’s really been around but getting better and better every year. The only thing I am wondering is
I have not seen a single robotic garage in San Francisco, why?
With attendant-free, fully automatic parking of vehicles, car owners will enjoy the retrieval of their vehicle in less than 2.5 minutes with no risk of dents, scratches or dings to the car. AutoMotion also eliminates the chance of damage to their car interior or theft of personal goods left inside of car, i.e., an iPod or briefcase, since no one ever enters the vehicle. Once a customer drives inside the garage’s entry/exit room and locks their car, they swipe a card to activate the system and leave. Their vehicle remains motionless, transported on a pallet automatically to its storage bay. When returning, customers swipe their card and their car is returned back to the entry/exit point and the customer starts the car and drives away. No tipping of attendants will be required. Without the frequent running and idling of auto engines found within traditional car valet parking systems, the environmental nuisance of harmful car exhaust fumes and excessive noise will also be removed.

DIY HACK - How to make a GPS Logger using PIC and a $20 GPS receiver

Here’s a tight little project that can cost very little to make if you need to make your own GPS
data logging system for your next hiking or outdoor adventure!
This project focused on creating a simple serial data logger for the Delorme Tripmate (also known as the GPSTripmate). The Tripmate is an older GPS receiver that can be purchased on eBay for < $20. I happen to have one that my family used a couple of years ago and it is still in great shape. It has been sitting in the back of my car for the past four years, so I finally decided to put it to good use. The plan was to create a GPS data logger that would record the position of the unit and allow me to read back the latitude and longitude after acquiring the data. My ultimate goal will be to use a small backpack to record my runs (once the weather warms up). This was a fun experiment because not only did I need to interface the PIC16F88 to the Tripmate…
Blogging, a Tax Deductable Home Business?
Is blogging a tax deductable home business? You betcha your mom’s house!
UPDATE: This is information for the U.S., other countries may have similar tax laws
As we all know, tax returns are coming soon. I just bought this book on home business tax deduction that tells you that as long as you can prove that you are making some money and you are trying to, you can write off stuff for taxes! (Yes, screw the federal government just for these months!)
Well as you know, I did buy this new laptop which I use 95% solely for the purpose of blogging. If you have Google ads or any type of revenue you are generating with your blog, and you blog mostly out of your home, you can declare yourself as Home Business! Well, I am not a tax expert but you can also deduct part of your rent if you rent an apartment like us. For example, if you use your living room as office, (or where you blog) and your living room is 50% of your house or apartment, you can write off 50% of your rent money as tax deductible rental!
Yey, maybe blogging was worth it since we are really running low on funds from spending too much on making various different websites over the last 6 months.
[We are not responsible though if IRS comes after you...]
Check out these websites, some of have gone south but some are still hanging on there…
Yes, you can declare your blog as a home business! Write off all the munches you are eating while blogging, all the gas spent driving to other bloggers, and any money you spend on on blogging! (That does give bloggers more incentives to keep blogging around.
)
Zedomax Websites:
Zedomax - Yey, this is our first blog and a website we can call a website
Da Bomb TV - This one we just made for fun to see how videos can affect people
SFBlogg - A localized blog for San Francisco and the Bay Area which we never have time to post anything so it’s in hibernation right now until we can quit our jobs… :p
Zikiwiki - An online technical documentation wiki, our first wiki using MediaWiki, which powers the Wikipedia.
WagThis! - A social bookmarking system that we made for fun after getting kicked off digg for hacking. You can wag this and wag that like a dog! Well the only problem with this one is that it’s running on a shared server and it’s just too slow but maybe we can do something with it in the future…after we quit our jobs…
HollywoodStars - (Adult ONLY) - Here’s a fun site that collects some celebrity news! (Don’t TELL anyone we made it! Shhh!)
Okay, so you got the idea, we are making some fun and bogus sites so check them out if you are bored and need some entertainment while doing your blog taxes! :0)
Server Upgrade - Server down for 20 minutes
Hi, we just upgraded to Wordpress version 2.1 and added some more translations using Angsuman’s Translator so don’t worry we are not getting extra traffic or anything.
The new wordpress version 2.1 Ella does seem a lot faster as far as the website itself and editing capabilities.
There is an auto save feature which is great since our internet seems to go down all the time now here at San Francisco…
We might have to switch to DSL, our Comcast sucks! Maybe it could be our $50 router… Regardless, you should be okay since our servers are not running here, phew!
Check out the Arabic translation of our site, it looks really cool.
